Gerald Jevian Schwarz was born on May 5, 1997, in The Lion City—Singapore. Gerald comes from a family of Japanese restaurant owners in Singapore. His father, Thomas Schwarz, had worked as a chef in Japan for 10 years before deciding to move to Singapore and open his own Japanese restaurant. It was there that he met Herlina Widjaya, Gerald’s mother.

Gerald was born and raised in Singapore. He grew up in a family that deeply loved Japanese cuisine. At the age of 7, Gerald once dreamed of becoming a chef and taking over his father’s Japanese restaurant business. However, that changed when Gerald entered secondary school. During that time, Gerald often competed with his desk mate, Jerry, for the title of the most accomplished student in their class and even in their entire grade. The one skill Jerry had, which Gerald lacked, was the ability to play musical instruments. Jerry was always the representative of the school, accompanying the choir or the school band. That’s when Gerald developed an ambitious desire to pursue a career in music.

By the time Gerald turned 18, he had become proficient in playing musical instruments: guitar, drums, piano, bass, and saxophone. He had learned them all since the age of 12 at a studio owned by his father’s loyal customer, Mr. Benjamin. Initially, Mr. Benjamin had overheard a conversation between Gerald and his father about Gerald wanting to take music lessons. Later, Mr. Benjamin kindly offered to teach Gerald at his music studio. Mr. Benjamin and Thomas had become close friends over the years, often visiting the restaurant and collaborating on catering for important events.

Gerald’s love for music, along with his interest in technological advancements, led him to decide to become a composer specializing in EDM. The genre had gained increasing popularity, aided by the advancement of technology, allowing for more innovative sound creation. In addition, Gerald also became a DJ so that he could perform his own music and share it with the world. To support his career, Gerald enrolled at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, NUS (National University of Singapore), majoring in Composition, and graduated in 2021.
